For my final monthly edit of the year, I invite you to meet James Turrell, iconic American artist whose medium is light.

For your delight:

A short video introducing Turrell’s work:

Why Turrell?

His is an art about how we interpret and create our world through our sensing of it. It’s not theoretical, but sensual.

There is grand vision too as the artist incorporates the sky + stars as the fourth wall of his architectural works—whether in the atrium of the Guggenheim Museum or at Roden Crater in Arizona.

Turrell was one of the artists of my undergraduate honors thesis, so today’s post feels a bit like coming home.

And if you’re also a Charlie Rose fan, here are parts 1 and 2 of a wonderful interview with Charlie Rose.

May your year ahead be light-filled—a wish that today feels more essential than ever.
