Freedom of Expression. [January Edit]
January’s edit is two photos (one above, and one below) and and a plea for each of us to claim our freedom of expression.
You find your voice by using it. And that means practicing it. Begin small, and then rise by tugging at the edges of what makes you (un)comfortable. Write that letter, call out injustice when you see it, speak up, step forward.
Last night I stepped into someone else’s living room to facilitate a listening session for six women eager to turn their shared concerns into action. This is part of a larger organizing effort for action, and I had attended a training session with fellow facilitators a few weeks earlier.
In that living room, I knew I was walking my personal + professional talk—that I want to live in a world where people capably say what needs to be said, ideas are crisp, and sincerity (not demagoguery) wins.
This is the moment. We need to hear our own thinking and turn that into fierce action.
And each of us has a unique contribution to make.
Your turn.
What opportunity today do you have to walk your talk?
What can you do today to claim your freedom of expression?
What belief or commitment can you lift into action?
And who can you connect with to make that happen?
It’s for our commonwealth.
Need some ideas. Here’s a link to the first of 10 actions for 100 days, from the organizers of the Women’s March.
